My Dearest Darling
Your little letter greeted me when I arrived today at one — I was very glad of it. It was good of you to write. Just a line is nearly as much comfort as a whole letter. I too have only time for a few words as I had to lecture and now post will be going in a few minutes. I have found the usual proofs etc. waiting for me here.
After writing to you I spent all the time in the train thinking about prisons. The subject has difficulties, but I shall get them solved soon I expect.
I can’t imagine what you mean about my twisting you round my little finger — I couldn’t twist you round my whole body. I think all the twisting is the other way.
Darling I am so longing to be back. I hate being away from you. If I were not very busy I should find it almost intolerable. But as long as I have plenty to do it gets me through the time. Already it seems an age since yesterday morning.
Now this must go to post. Goodbye my dearest Life.
Your utterly devoted
B.
I am afraid it will be quite impossible to get a letter to you on Monday.
