My Darling

I shall hope for a letter either tonight or tomorrow morning, but I won’t wait for that. It is baking hot — I nearly melted carrying my luggage up the hill in the middle of the day — since then I have enjoyed it, by wearing hardly any clothes and keeping still. North has gone to bathe, but I can’t face the hill a second time. He has to go early next Friday, so I can arrive at Peppard by 12, as I did yesterday, if that is possible for you. On Sat. I only have to get to the Phillimores, so I shall have more time than you will. I have written to the lady at Ipsden.

I think Kingham or Chipping Norton would be the place for me to go if you were at Banbury. Also I find the journey can be done from Cambridge by Bicester instead of Oxford. Bicester is not far.

I hope everything about our meeting will grow easier as time goes on. I long to get right away with you, where you won’t have your household on your mind. I think in the winter it could be done with perfect safety — it makes such a difference to you being free from maids and housekeeping and fuss. Then I will shave off my moustache beforehand — isn’t that an inducement?

It was so lovely of you to give me the locket with your hair — you think of such beautiful things to do. You wouldn’t believe how much joy it gives me.

The post is going and I must stop. Goodbye Dearest Love. All my heart goes to you.

Your utterly devoted
B.

I hope you didn’t find P. very tired.
