Dear Amethe
At last I have a moment to thank you for your very good letter and for the pipe. They did not charge duty for it, and I am most grateful to you for the gift. I have meant every day since I got your letter to write and thank you for it, but every day till now something desperately important has intervened. We are glad of your comparatively good news of Michelangelo. Please give him our best wishes.
Our “Nuremberg” so far goes well. My feelings are almost equally divided between hope and fear. I am most grateful for your enclosures. I thought Weizsäcker very unjustly treated at Nuremberg and I did what little I could to help him.
We both wish ardently that we could see you again, but at the moment I am tied to England, though I hate our government’s policy.
Warmest good wishes from us both.
Yours ever
Bertie
