BR sends Haynes a copy of the book he wrote while in Brixton Prison, Introduction to Mathematical Philosophy, for any collection he might have of books written in prison. Captain Haynes was the governor of the prison when BR was incarcerated.

The letter and book were offered for sale at the Oxford Book Fair in April 2013. Apparently Captain Haynes had a private collection!

The vendor wrote K. Blackwell on 22 September 2013: "As regards provenance, I purchased this as part of a small but interesting library from a deceased estate. The family name was Dodgson; perhaps some genealogical research may be able to link Dodgson with Haynes? Perhaps Dodgson had inherited it in the 1970's as he had obtained a valuation of the volume at that date; perhaps for insurance purposes or even probate? As you have expressed a possible interest in acquiring the item I have reserved it for you until I hear one way or another. David Bristow."

The copy of the book concerned is shelved with other copies of the book but with a photocopy of this letter tucked inside.
