PATRICIA RUSSELL TO UK PRIME MINISTER / CLEMENT ATTLEE, 25 NOV. 1948
BRACERS 107. TL(CAR). McMaster

Dear Mr. Attlee,
My husband, who is at Cambridge to-day, has just rung me up between lectures to ask me to write and tell you how sorry he is if the current misrepresentations of his views have caused any embarrassment to you.
I enclose a copy of the statement he has issued correcting the false report of his speech last Saturday at Westminster school. This report is only one example of many, and it is now obvious that an organized attempt is being made to discredit him. He will in future take all possible precautions to prevent anything he says or writes from being either misunderstood or misreported, including speaking only from a prepared script. In a letter to The Times he has asked readers not to believe statements attributed to him unless they appear with his signature or are spoken by his voice.
If there is anything else he can do to correct the unfortunate impression that has been given and to avert any possible ill effects please let him know.
Yours sincerely
