Dear Mr. Hirsch,
Thank you for your letter of September 16. You will find all that I have to say about romanticism in my History of Western Philosophy in the chapters ona the Romantic Movement, Rousseau and Byron. I have not studied Existentialism at all carefully but what I know of it makes me think it is rubbish. My essay called “In Praise of Idleness” was published in a volume called In Praise of Idleness and Other Essays. I do not remember who published it in America, but in England it was published by Allen & Unwin and in England it is still in print. I did not know of Stevenson’s Apology for Idlers. If I had, I would have made acknowledgement to him.
Yours sincerely,
<signed> Bertrand Russell
