Notes and topics

Helen writes of her 3-week visit with the Russells at the Millhangar. She describes the cottage in detail as well as Russell's working habits. She also notes topics that are discussed. " ... a favorite topic is the question as to whether Lord Russell [i.e. Frank Russell] was justified in forbidding Mabel Edith, his wife, to wear hired diamonds to the Queen's Drawing-room. It is permissible, it seems to borrow diamonds but not to hire them, and upon this rock Lord & Lady split. Do you see the difference, the great gulf between borrowing & hiring diamonds?"
