"Unfortunately almost all of Mateus d'Andrade Albuquerque's manuscripts have been destroyed after his death in 1974, and certainly the correspondence. He has lived, after some years in Switzerland, UK, and mainland Portugal, in Sao Miguel, an Azorean island, devoted to experimental chemistry and land farming. Almost a misanthrope, he published only a few essays on chemistry and epistemological questions."
