"In reply to your letter of 30 April, I can only say that as far as we know Mrs. Whitehead is still alive. At least we have been sending statements and royalties to her continuously and the cheques have been accepted and no question raised. As we have also been in correspondence with North Whitehead, I would certainly have expected him to inform us if his mother was dead."
