BR's letter arrived a month ago. "Dearest Bertie", she begins.
"Wednesdays have quite lost their savour since you went away."
She quotes Eliot on "On Denoting": a work of art, "clear and beautifully formed thought." She wants to read the essay. She herself is in advertising and was to become a novelist.
She signs herself merely "Tony". BR has supplied one of her several surnames, "Earnshaw Smith". She was born Eirene Botting.
The letter is intimate in tone. See her 1974 letter (record 122043) to K. Blackwell, in which she says she did not grant BR's wish for an intimate relationship.
