"On the whole, I think that no obstacle should be placed in the way of children receiving such religious instruction as is given in school, but that parents should not conceal their own unbelief. Children emphatically brought up to inorthodoxy are likely to resent the feeling of being oddities and to react vehemently in the direction of conformity. But, on the other hand, I do not think it is right for parents to conceal their opinions on important matters. Perhaps you will find such a compromise distasteful, but it is what experience has commended to me."
