"I trust you are not publishing McLendon's article. I remember his visits here, and I think to Richmond too. He was a nice and worthy man, but his mental processes and his sensitiveness seemed very laborious—at least that's what I and I believe my husband, thought at the time—and, though I can't now remember the details of his article, I remember being shocked when I read it by its obtuseness."
