Dear Rupert,

I saw Edith Russell two days ago, and agreed to have the dinner on Bertie’s birthday, which is Friday May 18th. They are having their concert on the 19th or 20th. We drew up a provisional list of guests — which come to about seventy people. In spite of the promptings of Mr. Shoneham [Schoenman] I was pretty successful at keeping the C.N.D. people out, but there were rather a lot of family relics, elderly friends cousins etc, whom Edith thought we ought to ask. Probably they won’t all come.

I thought it might be a good idea to hold the party in the House of Lords — nicer than a restaurant. But then we have to find a person to arrange it for us. Do you think that Jack Huntington would do it? Will you approach him? You know him much better than I do. We need to hear how much it would cost us, and we have to tell people when we invite them how much they are going to have to pay.

I am off to Moscow today week to lecture at the University, but I shall be back by the end of the month and will try to start organizing this thing then. Let me know what you think about it all.

Yours
Freddie

[RCW:] Suggested party after with room to go into. Bertie will have to talk to everyone anyway. Can’t get out of it[.]
